Our Music Director and Conductor:

Leandro Espinosa D. M. A.

Associate Professor of Music at Eastern Oregon University; Music Director and Conductor of the Grande Ronde Symphony and the Grande Ronde Youth Orchestras.
Composer, conductor, educator; b. 1955. Member of the Oxford Round Table Summer sessions of 2006, presenting research work on the future of the Arts and the Sciences, published by the Forum on Public Policy Online (Winter 2007 edition).
Works performed at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music Rome 2008, during the closing of the International Festival of Organ of Morelia; the first Latin American international festival of music sponsored by the Vatican. Other international festivals include the International Cervantine Festival, International Forum of New Music, International Festival of Choreography of Bagnolet, Capitulaciones de Santa Fé, Gestes 85, and the Berchem International Festival.
In the US, participation in the Exhibition Mexico a Work of Art 1990-91 organized by the National Council for Culture and the Arts of Mexico and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with performances in Albany, San Antonio, and Los Angeles.
Compositional works have been commissioned by the Fonds Alex de Vries of Belgium and produced by the Royal University of Ghent and the Belgian Radio and Television Network (RUG-BRT), University of Utah, National Funds for Culture and the Arts of Mexico, and the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico (INBA) among others. Recipient of several Eastern Oregon University Faculty Scholars awards.
Recordings by The Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Mexico, the Symphony Orchestra UANL, and guitar solo music on the labels Pro-disc in the series Mexican Classics, Lituus Productions and Koch-Schwann-Aulos respectively.
Prizes from the National Funds for Culture and the Arts of Mexico to The Intellectuals and Creators of Mexico, the University of Missouri-Kansas City Chamber Music 2000, and the 2000/2001 ASCAP Foundation Raymond Hubbell scholarship.
Music Director and Conductor of the Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra at Eastern Oregon University; former Music Director of the Musica Nova Ensemble at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; chamber orchestra of the Technol. Inst. of Superior Studies of Monterrey; chamber orchestra of the Superior School of Music and Dance Carmen Romano de Lopez Portillo of Monterrey and chamber orchestra of the University of Coahuila. Also former Assistant Conductor of the Independence Symphony and Peabody Camerata.
Former Associate Professor of Cello at the Superior School of Music and Dance of Monterrey (Mexico) and former member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Mexico.

2012-2013 Concert Schedule:

The date has been set for the 2013 EOU President’s Annual Chamber Event to be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the home of President Bob and Cindy Davies’ home at 7:30 pm. Musicians consist of EOU students, faculty, and GRSO members.

Also, the dates for the concerts for the 2012 – 2013 season have been set:
Concert – Saturday, November 10, 2012, in Baker City at 1 pm. Dress Rehearsal at 10:00 am. St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cathedral. Lunch provided by the Grande Ronde Symphony Association will be served at noon in the basement of the church.

Concerto Aria Festival – Sunday, February 24th, 2013, 2-4 pm. Groth, EOU Loso Hall. All area students – high school and younger, home school students, EOU students are encouraged to participate. Please inquire. Do you have a concerto in mind you would like to learn?
Talk with Leandro and get his input as well as his ideas. We must be able to buy music parts for the symphony and a score for the conductor for your concerto. Prepare now! You can always inquire of me, Eric, or Leandro, about any of the details. We are willing to help you.
