An Evening with Spain ~ A Tribute to Lorna
The eleventh Annual Benefit Auction of the Grande Ronde Symphony Association promises to be a memorable event! Entitled An Evening with Spain – A Tribute to Lorna, this year event will be held on Saturday September 24th from 6:00 to 8:45 pm at the Presbyterian Friendship Center, 1204 Spring St. La Grande.
“We are delighted to dedicate this year Benefit Auction to Lorna Spain, a long-time supporter of the orchestra” says Anna Cavinato, chair of the organizing committee. “Lorna has been a staple for the Grande Ronde Symphony Association as a Board Member and as its president from 2005 to 2012 and her tireless efforts to support the organization will be greatly missed”. Lorna, who was named Honorary Lifetime President in 2011, will move to the west side of the state to be closer to her children but her legacy will live on through the many contributions she has made to the GRSA over the years.
“This promises to be an exciting culinary experience with delicious Spanish food catered by Chef Merlyn Baker of Merlyn’s Catering and a no-host bar featuring wines by Echo Ridge Winery of Echo, OR and award-winning brews by Barley Brown of Baker City. Spanish themed music will be provided by Tony Corig and Friends. The silent auction will begin at 6:00 pm and will continue throughout the evening until 8:45 pm. The oral auction led by auctioneer Heidi Hill will start at 6:30 pm followed by dinner at 7:15 pm and entertainment. “We will have many wonderful items donated by businesses and individuals, from art work to dinners, cooking lessons and much more!” Cavinato adds.
A very special item this year is a sculpture donated by artist Dennis Hoyt which will be auctioned in a separate, world-wide auction. The art piece was inspired by an epic race that took place in 1955 when Sir Stirling Moss of England won Italy’s thousand-mile “Mille Miglia” road race driving a Mercedes Benz 300 SLR. “We are honored and most appreciative of this great gift!”.
“2015 was a year of much change from the GRSA and we were blessed with strong support from the community. We hope to see the same level of support for this year event so that we can continue to keep this long standing organization sustainable!” commented Patty Sandoz, President, GRSA.
Tickets are $35 each and they can be purchased from by any of the GRSA Board of Directors, or at Direct Music Source at 1206 Adams Ave. in La Grande or at Betty’s Books at 1813 Main Street, Baker City.
