Concerto + Aria Competition
The Grande Ronde Symphony offers two categories for the Concerto + Aria Competition, both with monetary compensation:
The Young Student category which is restricted to sixth grade through high school age students from eastern Oregon or SE Washington.
The Advanced Student will be restricted to college-bound seniors in high school and students currently enrolled at a public or private University or College with a maximum age restriction of 26.

2026 Young Student Award – Pianist, Alxander Vollmer
2026 Advanced Student Award – Pianist, Nikita Istratov
2019: Young Student Award – Trevor Natiuk, a freshman at Walla Walla University, performed the first movement of Piano Concerto by Schumann on May 29th, 2019.
2021: Young Student Award – Sarah Plummer, a Junior at Baker High School, performed the first movement of the violin Concerto No. 5 by Seitz on May 26, 2021, with the Grande Ronde String Orchestra.
2022: Young Student Award – Lana Emerson, pianist; Advanced Student Award – Yena Cho violin; Open Category Award – Anson Sin, piano.
2023: Young Student Award – Alice Mohlman, piano; Advanced Student Award – Hannah Schafer, violin; Open Award – Shahayla Ononaiye, soprano-vocal.
2024: Young Student Award – Lillyanne Schafer, violin; Advanced Student Award – Dexter Hidalgo, clarinet; Open Award – Viet Block & Lauren Nebel, violin and oboe.
2025: Young Student Award – Khaos Kook, violin; Advanced Student Award – Hannah Brown, soprano.
