Rosin Up Your Bow…GRSA Offers Music Lessons for Youth

Kaleidoscope For Violin logoBeginning this fall, the GRSA is starting the Island City Fiddle Club, a once a week fiddle club for interested third graders at Island City Elementary.

The new club will be taught by Denise Hattan, assisted by Kathreen Thimmes. Denise plays the viola in the Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra, and Kathy has continually supported the orchestra by playing violin longer than any current member.Frog Violin image

These two instructors recently attended classes to learn The Kaleidoscopes method for violin, which will be the primary teaching tool utilized. This method incorporates best practices from Suzuki/Montessori/Kodaly teaching principles and incorporates singing, piano, and violin playing. It has been wildly successful and youngsters quickly become inspired. Please click here for a short video on the Kaleidoscope Method.

A $60/child registration fee provides an entire year of instruction and performance opportunities. All supplies will be provided by the GRSO.

The club will meet weekly after school in the Island City music room from 2:30-3:30pm. Please contact Denise Hattan at 541-786-7244, Kathy Thimmes at 541-963-8207, or Patty Sandoz at 541-963-7595 for more information.
